In this episode, Leechy runs into a rant about her dresses and an attempt at mobile updating

Wonder what this is about?? Well, this is a small post about my creations, what I like about them, and what I'd like to change about them.
This is also a test on updating by phone. Not the easiest thing, let me tell you.

Just bear with me, if there's weird flaws.

My Slytherin dress. I love the simplicity of this. It's pretty easy to coordinate too. This thing is pretty popular on tumblr in the nerdy lolita crowd, but, and this is pretty obvious I think, the waist sits a bit too high, and the skirt is too short. I also need to do something about the fact that the crest print disappears in the folds of the fabric :(

This was the first dress I made after I refound my love for lolita. The bodice has cute details, but the skirt is a mess. There is not enough room for a petticoat and the details sits somewhat oddly.

Ah, my Paris Love dress. I love this thing! The color, the details, the shape. But it needs lining, and a small alterations in the waist.

This is my go-to dress, when I want to do a toned down coord. The skirt is some 10 cm too long, and I want to add a velvet ribbon to the hem.

This is my most elaborate dress to date. I don't want to change anything, but the width in the waist. I made it too loose :/

My favorite dress. This thing goes with almost anything, and it's just so classically lolita. There's nothing on this that needs to be fixed.

this thing is ooooold! I made it sometime before I took a break from loli. It's been through a lot, and actually, these days, I can't fit into it. The back isn't shirred, and my boobs are suddenly too big for it :(
I need to fix decorations on the bodice, and I'd like to do something to cover the seam at the hem frills.

God, this thing isn't even done yet! I need to figure out how to attach the ribbon to the waist just right, an I still don't know what to do with the hem. Damnit -_-''

My Deerest Dark dress. This was made as an empire waist dress, but I now want to make it into a normal waist dress, as well as I want to try my hands at a chiffon print.

My first venture into the bittersweet territory. This thing was such a hassle because of the embroidery. It was made using the zig zag stitch function and a lot of stop-and-turn. That damn writing on the cookie. Anywho, the waist sits a bit low, And the dress still needs lining.

I've also made skirts and such, but they don't need a lot of fixing. What you'd probably like to know, if you keep track of my dress makings, is that today I almost finished one dress ( Sabrina's very overdue birthday present) and that I bought chiffon and good quality satin, all in pink, for a dress that I hope to finish, sometime next week.

In this episode, Leechy rewrites her entry about the frill cult meetup

I originally had this written into my previous entry, but I just found a few more photos, and I think the meetup really deserved an entry all by itself, and not be drowned in talks of photoshoots and magazine woes.

On february 11th, I attended a lolita meetup. Oh, how I've missed the feeling of hanging with a bunch of gorgeously dressed girls! There's just something about walking in a crowd of lolitas!

Rundown
Chocolate box hat - Homemade
Shirt - Vila (borrowed it from Sabrina)
JSK - Homemade
Stockings - H&M

Bling and hairbow - Homemade and Btssb

Mero and Bolette talking with (god, I never got her name ;_; )

We went to a super fancy tea salon, called Perch (it belongs to the oldest tea shop in Denmark, if memory serves correct), where tea is served in silver pitchers, a ridiculously long tea menu, and delicious cakes. Don't even get me started on the interior itself.

Coco and Julie, fawning over the wonderful display of cakes and scones

We sat at a long table, and everyone looked gorgeous!! I was so impressed with everyone's outfit!! The best thing was, that it seemed like everyone was having a really good time, and that no one felt left out in the conversations.

We all got smiles and curious looks from the other patrons, and a few asked us politely why we looked the way we did. Que; the standard speech. I think everyone knows the explanation by heart now, but it never really gets tiresome, to tell people why we dress the way we do.

Sabrina did this amazing new hairstyle, and it just looked so pretty!!

Perch Tea Salon is just so beautiful!! Check out Sabrina's blog, to see photos from the event. Or visit Bolette's blog to see photos (it's in danish, but the pictures are still good!)

Sabrina, Stephanie and I had booked tickets for The Woman in Black later in the evening, and since I'd booked 3 more tickets, just in case, we asked if any of the lolitas wanted to join us after we left the salon.
Two girls joined us; Bolette and Anchu, and we drank hot cocoa and coffee at the cinema café, talking and laughing, until it was time to watch the movie.

This movie.... it was SO scary!! I'm really bad with horror movies, and this thing played heavily on things moving in the background, creepy sounds, and shock flashes!
I wanted to watch this movie, because it was a victorian horror flick, a remake of an old Hammer production, and it starred Daniel Radcliff, whom I was really looking forward to see as someone else than Harry Potter.
Of course, Harry was in the back of my mind at times, but Daniel did SO well!! He really does pain, anguish and bravery so well! He also looked so grown up, and I must say, it suits him very well!!
I spent so many times hiding my face in my faux fox stole, muttering things like "Nonononononono!!" "what are you doing?!!" "Duuuuuuude!!" "eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeck!!" etc. I was so scared!!
At the same time, this was all done with a lot of elegance and class. A must, when you're doing a period piece.
My only quib would have to be a kind of crappy special effect at the end of the movie (nothing major tho'), and I just hate horror movie endings, but I still loved it!!

My final thing for you in this entry is this; My dad and brother came by sunday, and delivered my most coveted vanity table! It's been at my parents' house for a few weeks, where I've been sanding and painting it, but now it's finally where it belongs!

I still need to put in the glass handles I've bought for it, and then all I need to do is find the perfect chair for it! I don't know if I'll go for something big and soft, or for a small bench that'll fit underneath the tabletop.

In this episode, Leechy runs into salt circles, magazines, and kittens

I've got a little something to show you

These are from the Supernatural shoot I did with Sabrina, and as you can see, there's not a lot of denim or plaid going on. You can see all the shots in the magazine (link below) or check out Sabrina's photoblog.

However, we had salt circles, a (somewhat sparkly) gun, my supernatural monster guide book, and a lighter (for those bones burning times).
I also tried to put in small hints, like skull bracelets, crosses, and a kinda badass attitude. Like Sabrina said; rather than basing the outfit off of one of the characters which we both thought about for a while, I decided to translate the whole "Hunter" concept to Lolita.
Not sure how well I did (this was my first shoot planning, and I was a Plan Pony mess XD ) but it was fun, albeit a bit cold.

Stine also did an appearance as Sammifer (Lucifer possesing Sam). And I'm still impressed that she managed in the cold (we were in a half torn down building, with snow all around and the wind blowing in) with only a thin white suit.

The 7th issue of Starlight is up and ready for browsing.

This was the hardest issue yet, and even though I like how it turned out, especially the theme, and the work itself, I'm just getting a bit tired of it all.
Things are turned in late, I get done late, mostly (but not always) because of unforeseen obstacles, like wrong document formats, and misspellings (it's not my job to proof read, but I refuse to put up messy spelling, if I see it) This was also the second time, that I did the editors note, even though I'm not the editor (and I still don't get the credit for it).

I don't know... it's just a bit tiresome, when you start to get that nagging feeling, that you might be putting more effort into the work than some others ( I know that's not reeeeeally the case, but it feels like it, when you're stressing with so much work ).
The magazine takes up SO much of my waking hours. Not necessarily a bad thing, as I like the magazine itself. I brainstorm ideas for shoots and things for Starlight, almost every day at work with Sab. I spend days on shoots and preparing for them, and I generally spend about a week or so on the layout itself.
Add a 37 hour work week, plenty of friends and a family, and you don't really have a lot of time for all the other hobbies. I'm single atm, but were I not, there would be not enough hours in the day.
This is a lot of whining, but I needed to get it out. I realize that it's not really fair to expect so much of the Starlight crew, since this is completely on a voluntary basis, and everyone has a life, school, etc. to focus on. Sometimes you just get frustrated, even if it is illogical.
Also, the magazine is in danish, meaning we have a very small focus group ( dude, a third of the danish comunity works on the damn magazine XD Which is great, as far as the amount of contributors is concerned ), and that results in a somewhat small payoff when it comes to feedback/comments.

Ok, enough about that. I've written a long list of things I'd like to change in the work process, and I'm giving it another go, so I'm gonna think positive and hope it all works out. I'm a stubborn bitch, so I won't give up just yet. Besides, despite my issues with things, the girls are great and sweet ( if a bit late at times) and I love seeing what they've made/written. It's also fun to do layout, when I have enough time and enough visual material :3

My final thing for you today is a picture of the newest member of my family, a kitten we call Lillemivs (little kittens, I think is the best translation). Sabrina took the photo when she came down to Solrød for a visit (I was taking care of the pets, since my parents were in Sweden).

Lookit her tiny rabbit'y feet!!! *melts into a puddle*

Getting up to speed

What happened to posting? Cuz I'm sure, I don't know. If you ignore my video post, I haven't been posting since summer last year!? How that happened.... I'm confuzzled!! I guess between making clothes, playing at modelling, working on Starlight Magazine, and being obsessed with tumblr, I guess I just kinda forgot XD

Here's some of the highlights since then:

Starlight magazine #5 was released. The theme was Halloween, and a lot of our contributors was inspired by it. You can see it all here, but remember it's in danish. Still, there are plenty of photos that you can feast your eyes on.

Sabrina and I got together and made a mini shoot, consisting of 4 images, 2 with me, and 2 with Sabrina. Here's the two with me, and you can see the others in the magazine.

Sabrina had also planned a big shoot, Snow White, with a twist (one where the evil Queen killed Snow White). We were 3 models in all, Lone as the Mirror, Emilie as Snow White, and I was the Queen.
Sabrina had found all the locations in the same park, so we didn't have too much roaming around to do, not to mention the fact that Sabrina lives 1o minutes away. A great relief when Sabrina has to drag all her photography gear with her :3
As always, our photographer had gone all out and bought or made pretty much everything we wore!

Pretty much everything - H&M
Except...
Belt - Gina Tricot
Headbow - Homemade
Shoes - Deichmann

I only found a single coordination shot from back then. I wore lolita more than that, but I'm terribly forgetful, when it comes to taking photos when it happens XD

At the start of december, Starlight Magazine's Christmas issue was released, and we were lucky to get the talented LooneyLolita to make the cover, visit her blog here.

Sabrina had planned a shoot inspired by the classic tale of the Ballerina and the Tin Soldier (outfit wise), and old forgotten porcelain dolls. After much location scouting, we ended up in the attic of her building. A giant space, with lots of corridors and atmosphere. But the light faded too fast, and Sabrina had a hard time with the lighting, so sadly we didn't get as much material as we had hoped. None the less, I think it turned out really cool. Sabrina even enhanced our eyes digitally, to make them look bigger and more doll like. This time it was Lone and I, who stood in the lime light. Sabrina made the skirt, and I made Lone's dress out of 2 dresses from H&M.

This was not the only shoot I attended, however. I'd been talking to Sabrina about doing something inspired by a gorgeous sculpture called 'Death and the maiden', and she'd been wanting to do a take on 'The little Matchstick Girl', and she figured these would work together really well for a sort of dark, romantic tale.
I didn't model for this, I only joined in as moral support and assistent to Sabrina (working the reflector etc.). The models were newcomer Ariellah, and Stine, who's modelled for Sabrina before.

The girls did absolutely amazingly!! Ariellah was simply stunning and so innocent looking, and Stine was chilly, yet handsome and stoic as Death.
Can you believe Sabrina made both Death's cloak and the dress from scratch? Stine put her outfit together, herself, adding all sorts of small details, and even sewing on the cord to the jacket. Check out the full shoot + the extra shots at Sabrina's photo blog.

A few of my outfits from november and december.

This weekend and the next 2 days, I'll be working on the 7th issue of Starlight, this time with a theme of (as I call it) 'Your nerd is showing', and Valentine's. Last sunday, I did a shoot with Stine and Sabrina, to show my love of Supernatural (don't you dare say you don't know SPN :3 ). Just don't expect to see lots of plaid, jeans and t-shirts (rather think gun+lighter+salt, and then mix it with bittersweet Lolita).
Issue #7 will be out on wednesday.

I've also been working on renovating an old vanity table for my room. Always dreamed of owning one, and I finally found it at a giant market. But the rest of the tale will have to wait till I've finished it and installed it into my room ^__^

I'm sure there's lots more that I've forgotten, but for now, this will have to do...

Hey-ho an update, with a video!!

Yesterday, the hugest drama blew up on the danish lolita community, and although I don't want to get into all the details (because this is a horror story of 3 pages so far, and so much of it could be avoided if people just calmed down, and stopped playing the victims or the righteous defenders) I went and did this video this morning, as a sort of reply to all the bitching, and also with a few simple pointers as to how to avoid too much drama when it comes to posting and commenting on coordinations.

Photoshoot - Elverhøj

As I’ve mentioned before, I joined the staff of the only current danish lolita oriented magazine; Starlight Magazine.
Last edition I did the cover art, and two editions ago, I modelled with friends for the Red Riding Hood shoot. This time I modelled with three other models, wrote and article and did a tutorial, designed final logo from scratch and did the layout for most of the magazine, this last bit wasn’t too bad, since a lot of the magazine consists of photoshoots, as well as five articles written and layouted by Sabrina, as well as having both a make-up tutorial, a recipe page and a page with recent brand.
Most of the work consisted in waiting for people to finish their works, figuring out who made what, if they planned on finishing things before deadline and so on (two didn’t meet deadline).

The photoshoot itself was planned ages ago, by Sabrina who really wanted to make this shoot happen. She made one dress and two skirts, bought extensions, jewellery and make-up, and we went location scouting one weekend, and she tried getting dry ice, which fell through, so she got smoke bombs instead, and when Stine, who was to be our soldier for the shoot, got really ill at the last minute, we advertised for a model on facebook, and our friend Rikke agreed. This was a major save, and Rikke did so well!! She didn’t have much clothes, but she and Sabrina managed to scrape a really convincing outfit together by combing things from their wardrobes.

We all met up at Sabrina’s at 10, and spent the next four hours to get ready, then we packed provisions, photography gear etc. and got on our way.

The trip to the location took some 30 minutes plus the 20 minutes it took to walk from the station to the final location. We passed through a major deer herd in the idyllic forest, and the deer just ignored us. It was magical! Sadly none of us took any photos.

The shoot took around three hours I think, and then the skies suddenly opened up and water poured down!! We all scrambled to save the gear and the make-up. Since I’d been barefooted for the shoot, and my shoes had gotten wet, I simply walked back in the pouring rain without shoes, stepping in puddles and mud. It was great!
The day ended with Supernatural and pizza. A great ending to an eventful and fun day!

If you just want to see the photos from the shoot, and not the whole magazine, check out Sabrina's photoblog over at Flights of Fancy.

Genki con

Once upon a time, there was only one Japanese pop culture oriented convention in the small kingdom of Denmark. I joined the staff and attended it for four years, but then the con just got too big for it’s own, too little space, too many people, too many unannounced schedule changes, gossip and so on. At least for my own liking. A lot of people still believe in J-popcon and love going, and they plan their cosplay for most of the year.
By this time other conventions had sprung up in the rest of the country, to cater to the many people who wished to share and celebrate their love for anime, manga, cosplay and so on, And many were too young to travel to the other end of the country, or couldn’t afford the very expensive trip, or even just wanted to attend more than one con a year, as well as be able to cosplay without freezing to death (J-popcon was always held in winter).
I had by this time lost the interest almost completely, and only attended J-popcon to participate in the fashion show (where others planned co splays, I planned and made a new dress), but I didn’t really get into the con spirit, most people there seemed very young, annoying and so on. However I now think that you get what you give, and I had a lot of negativity and so only saw the bad things.
Last year however, I attended a new con called Genki (this was only their second year) as I was participating in the fashion show, and was very surprised to discover that I wanted to stay after the show, to hang out with my friends and talk. So, this year, as our great leader Sascha advertised for participants in the lolita show for Genki, I joined, after finding out if I had favourable working hours. And since a lot of friends were coming too, I planned on spending Saturday at the con.
The fashion show was Friday, so I dragged my outfit with me to work, then with me back to Roskilde (which seems silly, but I didn’t want to waste time swinging by the apartment to get the outfit). Keon was a hero, and picked me up at the station so that I didn’t have to bother with busses or walking.
I hung out with Keon, Cecil, Eri and her baby girl Emma for some 15 minutes, and then I had to meet up with the rest of the frill cult to go to a changing room, which had been reserved for us (really cool) It was all back stage, so no one saw our outfits before the show. This was a problem at last years J-popcon).

My outfit was inspired by the newest upcoming craze; OTT classic, and even though I was unsure if you could call black and off white classic, I went for it. My friend Stine joined us as well this year, and dressed in aristocratic boys style. We totally matched 8D

Rundown

Bonnet - Homemade
Roses - Accessorize + H&M
Blouse - Market (cannot recall the brand)
Dress - Homemade
Stockings - H&M
Shoes - Bianco
Bling - A mix of homemade, H&M and vintage

The bonnet turned out SO well! I’m very pleased with it. I based it on a floppy hat from H&M and then just went crazy with scissors, needle and thread, chiffon and ribbons. The material of the bonnet is wool/felt, and it sits very nicely on the head, so much so that it didn’t need any combs.

As said, I paid a one day ticket for Saturday and it was so much fun! I didn’t attend that many events, but just hung out a lot. It was actually so much fun that I went on Sunday as well. This wasn’t planned as I had a deadline on an E-zine, but I just really needed the weekend to be a little longer, and so I went.

Here’s some mood photos.

My outfit saturday. I was head over heels for those storm troopers! Sigh

I also brought my LE Identity Disc, which I made people pose with.

My friends, Stine and Casper in their DOGS cosplay.

Sunday's outfit. Photo by Ariellah

Sassy shot. Photo by Ariellah

I'm a Marvel girl by heart, so you can imagine how obscenely pleased I was with this group, not to mention the mask-thing XD

Spiderman was SO awsum! I love this shot!

The aforementioned E-zine will be the topic of my next update
